Fire Suppression Plan Review and Inspections

Fire suppression plan review includes plan review, review of corrected drawings and required inspections. Required inspections include the rough in/200# test/insulation as one inspection and the final flow inspection as the second inspection. If additional inspections become necessary they are billed at a rate of $150.00 per inspection.

Small project modification/addition to existing NFPA 13/13R/13D/Combination System

  • 1) Any addition/modification involving less than 21 sprinkler heads to an EXISTING automatic sprinkler system shall NOT require a complete plan submittal as long as the following is provided:
    • a) A completed permit application.
    • b) A check for the appropriate fee.
    • c) A letter from the Arizona licensed fire sprinkler contractor stating:
      • i) The hydraulic water supply will be sufficient and that the work being performed will not negatively impact the existing hydraulics. 
      • ii) The added or modified sprinklers are not adding to nor are they creating a new remote area.
      • iii) The exact number of sprinklers being added/moved/modified and why.
      • iv) Time schedules for the work (start date and projected completion).
      • v) The system will be installed in accordance with all applicable codes and standards
  • 2) Any addition/modification involving flexible sprinkler hose to an EXISTING automatic sprinkler system shall NOT require a complete plan submittal provided that the system was originally designed with flexible sprinkler hose and all the requirements in item #1 are fulfilled.
  • 3) Any addition/modification involving paint booths, pipe-schedule designed systems, and other special application sprinkler systems SHALL require a complete plan submittal, no exceptions.
  • 4) There shall be a limit of ONE “less than 21 sprinkler head” construction permit per sprinkler system without a complete plan submittal being required.
  • Fire Protection Underground:

Fire lines shall be visible during hydrostatic testing. Center loading of the pipe is acceptable; however, all joints, valves, thrust blocks, and fittings shall be visible. The fire department inspection of fire line consists of the fire line supply piping from the inside / outside of the building(s) to the point of connection to the supply water main at street or to water main loop. If a remote FDC is installed, the fire line supply piping from the building to the remote FDC is required.

  • 2 sets hard copy (signed and stamped by a NICET III or IV or AZ Design Professional) or 1 PDF copy of plans submitted on digital media 
  • Hydraulic Calculations (PDF Copy)•Product Specifications (PDF copy with specific products highlighted or indicated)
